MIGRANTE
Europe 20 January 2001 Statement
Long Live The Filipino People With The Ouster Of The Criminal Regime
Of Joseph Estrada!
We join compatriots in the Philippines and overseas in celebrating
the victorious ouster of the criminal Estrada regime through people
power.
The Filipino people have once again shown the whole world that they
can topple a rabidly criminal, anti-people and pro-imperialist regime,
through extra-constitutional means.
We pay tribute, particularly to the ordinary Filipino - the masses
- who at the last moment became the decisive factor in turning the
tide against the criminal regime of Joseph "Jose Velarde" Estrada,
by gathering in their millions at EDSA. Indeed, this historical
episode has once again shown that the masses of the people make
history.
This episode in our history is something that all Filipinos, particularly
those working overseas as domestics, health aides, construction
workers, seafarers, professionals and entertainers, should be proud
of. Let us hold our heads up high because we have shown the whole
world that real sovereignty and power resides with the masses of
the people. No tyrant, fascist, criminal and imperialist regime
can match the power of the masses of the people when they are finally
awakened.
We join the popular call to the new government of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
to pursue until the end the criminal prosecution of Jose Velarda
aka Joseph Estrada and his gangster clique. We also call on the
new government to fulfill the demands of the basic sectors, particularly
the more than seven million overseas Filipino workers who are fighting
for the promotion of their rights, welfare and interests
Finally, Filipinos in Europe extend their warmest gratitude to their
European friends - the genuine friends of the Filipino people --
who in so many ways contributed their share and are always in close
solidarity with the Filipino people now and in the greater struggles
ahead.
MABUHAY ANG SAMBAYANANG PILIPINO! ISULONG ANG PAMBASANG KALAYAAN
AT DEMOKRASYA! LONG LIVE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY!
