ERN-HK PRESS STATEMENT
17 January 2001

We Urge Our Families Back Home to Go to the Streets and Oust Estrada!

We, migrant Filipinos in Hong Kong, call on to our families back home to
march with the rest of the Filipino people enraged over the latest Senate fiasco
orchestrated by the shameless senator-judges determined to acquit Estrada.

The refusal of the Senate tribunal, through a vote of 11 to 10 in favor of
Estrada, to open the envelope which shall reveal the truth about his crimes,
has effectively murdered all hopes for the impeachment process in the
eyes of the Filipino people. However, it also stood as a burning testimony to the
disgusting web of deceit and corruption of this bankrupt administration.

There is no more need to explain why Estrada must go. The time calls for
another display of people power.

We salute the brave men and women, even the elderly and children, who are
now in EDSA and other regions, for risking life and limb to uphold the dignity
and the patriotic and democratic tradition of the Filipinos exemplified in
the toppling of the dictator Marcos. The spirit of all overseas Filipinos
equally fed up with a crook and criminal president joins your unshakeable
will to oust Estrada.

The verdict is now beyond the dirty hands of a discredited Senate. The
ordinary people, whom Estrada has consistently mocked, shall be the sole
judge, jury, and executioner of Estrada’s fate. We, and our families have no
other option but to go to the streets and bring an end to the Estrada
government.#
