A Tribute to Simon Jenkins

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we, the Mission For Migrant Workers (MFMW Limited) and the whole foreign domestic helpers’ community in Hong Kong receive the news of the sudden demise of Simon Jenkins, one of Hong Kong’s leading legal luminaries.

He was appointed a Principal Magistrate on January 19, 2009 . At his appointment the Honourable Chief Justice Mr Andrew Kwok-nang LI recognized him as an outstanding judicial officer who will contribute to the Judiciary in upholding the rule of law.

We find Simon Jenkins a brilliant Judicial Officer known for his probity, fairness and devotion to the rule of law.

Mr. Jenkins will always be remembered by the number of foreign domestic helpers who have stood before his bench with little hope of attaining justice but in the end realized that in Mr. Jenkins, justice applies to all including the vulnerable members of the community like the foreign domestic workers.

We mourn his death but we thank God for the life and work of Mr. Simon Jenkins.#
